Recent remarks by the former Real Madrid boss to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport has sparked rumors of a return to Stamford Bridge.

This is not something new to football fans. Back in 2013, after a strenuous relationship with the players and board, Jose Mourinho walked away from Real Madrid in favor of Chelsea, and in came Carlo Ancelotti to replace the Portuguese boss.

However, two years later, could the same incident repeat itself?

The Special One is under heavy pressure this season, with the reigning English Premier League champions underperforming. Eight games in the new season has produced only two wins for the Blues, drawing twice and losing four, as they sit in 16th spot.

Mourinho has insisted that as long as he has the backing of his players, never will he quit Chelsea, with the London side publicly throwing their full support behind the 52-year-old, though cries for the former Porto tactician’s sacking still linger.

Coincidentally so, Ancelotti, who is still on sabbatical, has now revealed to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (per Italia Football) that he intends on returning back to work as early as January, and that a return to England is his wish.

“The vacation will continue at least until the end of the year. Then I’ll start again,” said the Italian.

“Where will I go? Where they call me. I will talk, evaluate and decide. Up until a few weeks ago I was scared someone would call, but now I feel like I’m getting closer to that comeback.

“At least that is the plan, unless something strange happens. I am ready to get the engine back up and running in January.

“I’d like to go back to the Premier League. It is the ideal environment not for football, but for the ‘game’ around football.

“You can work with the right amount of pressure, the necessary detachment and calm. Before I quit, I’d like to have another experience in England.”

Carletto, one of the world’s most respected and highly decorated active managers, had previously spent two, trophy-laden seasons at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Community Shield.

Should Mourinho fail to turn Chelsea’s fortunes around soon, trigger-happy Abramovic could likely axe Jose even before January. Should this happen, Ancelotti’s experience in England and familiarity with the Blues would definitely make him favorite to take over the managerial role.
