Things couldn't have started off better for Juventus, since they were able to get rid of a jinx when it came to playing a match in England. With goals by Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata, the bianconeri side earned three points for the first time while visiting an English team in any European competition since 1996.
After a goal-less first half, things kicked off with an own goal by Giorgio Chiellini, who was set to become the villain for his side. Nevertheless, it took Mario Mandzukic just 13 minutes to make things even for the current Champions League runners up. "Super Mario" sent the ball into the back of the net after Paul Pogba sent a long ball into the Sky Blues' box. This was the first goal conceded by the Citizens in any official game.
"Mandzukic is the only Croatian player besides Alen Boksic to score a UCL goal for three different sides."

Every time I see that Mandzukic goal I think Pogba is going to just spray that pass wide. What a ball.

Eleven minutes later, Alvaro Morata managed to give La Vecchia Signora the lead with a beautiful finish. The Spanish striker took advantage of a loose ball just outside of Manchester City's box, sending it to the post and into the back of the net of Joe Hart's goal.
