Los Blancos had purchased the Basque player back in 2013, but a number of injuries and his lack of contribution on the pitch caused the team to part ways with the midfielder.

After two seasons of sloppy performances at Real Madrid, Asier Illarramendi found his way back home. The holding midfielder penned today a six-year deal with his former club, Real Sociedad, following two years in which he could not establish as a starter for Los Blancos. Florentino Perez agreed to sell the midfielder for less than half of what they paid two years ago.

Moments after his unveiling with the Txuri-Urdin, Illarramendi revealed why he chose to leave in the first place, and what people can expect with his comeback.

"I'm truly happy that eveything was sorted out so quickly. This is what I wanted and what I was looking for. I understand that people can hold something against me, but it was a chance I couldn't overlook. I hope things turned out better for me over there, but it's my belief that the team will benefit from what I learned with Real Madrid," Illarramendi stated.

The player was welcomed by the team's supporters after signing his contract.

The team shared some pics of the player's unveiling via its Twitter feed.

"It's time to give our supporters some gifts"

The player used his Twitter feed to invite fans to his unveiling at Anoeta Stadium.

"Looking forward to see you. Let's meet around 19:00 at Anoeta"
