The Portuguese defender joined Real Madrid in 2011. He has played 100 games for the Spanish side but only 17 last season.

Fabio Coentrao will be joining Monaco starting this weekend on a year-long loan hoping to get more playing time than what he was given with Real Madrid the past season. The 27-year old Portugues left-back has agreed to leave Los Blancos for one season after he joined in 2011, while his contract expires in 2019.

Coentrao spent most of the first half of the season dealing with injuries or just not playing the time he wanted. During the summer, his name was linked with other clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. In the end, with less than five days to go in the transfer window, Monaco decided to get the player on a loan.

This is how Monaco shared the news on Twitter

During the 2014-2015 season, Coentrao played in only nine La Liga games. He participated in four Champions League matches and only one Copa del Rey game. In total, out of the more than 60 games that Real Madrid played last season, Coentrao only played in 17. He did not score any goals and delivered two assists.

Coentrao should be traveling to Monaco this Wednesday as he is scheduled to undergo his medical examinations this Thursday. The Ligue 1 team will not be play in this year's Champions League after they failed to beat Valencia in the playoffs. Their next game is against PSG this upcoming Sunday.
