Sepp Blatter has been the president of FIFA since 1998. The new elections will take place on February 26, 2016.

Sepp Blatter will only continue seven more months as the president of FIFA to end an 18-year tenure as the head of the world of soccer. The Swiss chief had won the elections earlier this year when Prince Ali bin Hussein decided to quit in the second round of votes. Five days later, Blatter announced he would be calling for elections to find a replacement as the FBI and other Federal Agencies were investigating his organization.

Later on, Blatter had second thoughts on that decision, but now that the date for the new elections has been announced, he has once again stood by his decision to stand out of the way of anyone that wishes to take his spot.

Elections to find his successor will take place during an Extraordinary General Meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, where the Fifa headquarters are located. Blatter had just won his fifth re-election when he decided it was time to step aside with everything that was going on around the organization.

Two possible candidates to take the spot of 79-year-old Blatter are Michel Platini and Zico. One is reported to have the support of Europe, Asia and both North and South America. Zico, may have to start building his campaign from the ground up, as he has never run for such a high position.
