According to sources close to 'El Diez', the Argentinean legend envisions himself as the leader football's governing body needs to reach stability.

Diego Armando Maradona's wish of leading FIFA may finally come through. Following reports about his possible inclusion in Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein's team to lead football's governing body, "El Pelusa" told some of his most trusted friends his intention was none other than aiming for the big job in the upcoming FIFA Congress, before the date is even set.

Victor Hugo Morales, a long-time associate of Maradona, shared the news via a media outlet, stating that Maradona had told him to release the news upon the world.

"He told me he was going to run for president of FIFA and authorised me to inform. 'I am a candidate', were the words Diego Maradona used to answer me when I consulted him about the nomination for the presidency of FIFA," Morales said.

Since he hung his boots in 1997, Maradona became a harsh critic of everything FIFA did, and Blatter was an often target of his criticism. During this year's election, "El Diez" backed Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein's bid for president, and apparently, he will be launching his campaign shortly.

Other possible candidates for the job could be former Netherlands' exec Michael Van Praag, former footballer Luis Figo and Prince Ali, who was the only one to stand against Blatter in the most recent congress.

This statement raised a few eyebrows among fans and experts, and here are some of those comments.
