Cakir worked in four UEFA Champions League matches this year including the first leg of the series between PSG and Chelsea.

With both teams qualified to play the UEFA Champions League final in Berlin, the only thing the game needed was its referee. Today, UEFA officers appointed Turkish Cuneyt Cakir as the man in charge.

Cakir, 38, worked in four UEFA Champions League matches this season. His last appearance in the tournament came during the first leg of the Round of 16 matchup between PSG and Chelsea. He also refereed Athletic vs Napoli (3-1), Shakhtar - Porto (2-2) and Bayern - Roma (2-0). This will be the second straight UCL Finals appearance for Cakir, being the fourth referee in last year's game between Real Madrid and Atletico.

Curiously enough, the last game Cakir refereed for Barcelona ended up with a 2-2 draw against Chelsea, which saw Los Blaugranas eliminated in the semi-final stage of the European tournament. The Turkish ref has never judged a match for Juventus.

Fans had mixed reactions to the Turkish's designation as UCL Final referee.
