The NGO issued a press release denying the Portuguese striker had donated any money, stating he has only 'raised awareness' about the gravity of the situation.

Reports emerged last week about a donation made by Cristiano Ronaldo to help aid those affected by the earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25th. Those reports claimed that the Portuguese striker had donated £5 million and earned him praise around the world, but today, those reports have been denied by the NGO "Save the Chidren".

Via a press release, the NGO revealed that although Cristiano Ronaldo is a global spokesperson for the organisation, he has not donated any amount of money to help relief those affected.

"The latest information on the donation of Cristiano Ronaldo to the emergency response of Save the Children in Nepal is false. After the second earthquake, which has brought further devastation to the country, the NGO wants to thank Cristiano Ronaldo and other influential people for their support in publicising the situation facing children and families in Nepal," the press release states.

However, the NGO praised Ronaldo's efforts to support the charity's work.

“The global ambassador for Save the Children, Cristiano Ronaldo, has used his voice and his global visibility to raise awareness of the problems faced by the most vulnerable children around the world, including those affected by the earthquake in Nepal," the statement continues.

On April 28th, CR7 shared a link via his Twitter feed urging his fans to help those who had been affected by the earthquake's devastation.

The news was received with mixed thoughts by fans and media.

The player has not issued any statement regarding the issue, since he currently is under a self-imposed media blackout.
