Kazakhstan visit Austria as the Euro 2012 qualifying phase continues in Group A.

Euro 2012 qualifying - Kazakhstan players react in disappointment as they concede against TurkeyAustria are yet to play in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. The 2008 European Championship co-hosts will open their campaign on Tuesday when they’ll host Kazakhstan at the Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim. Although the match might not see one of the two teams categorically dominating, Austria are still poised to come out of this encounter with all three points.

Kazakhstan actually suffered a 3-0 defeat to Turkey in their backyard last Friday. First half goals from Turan and Altintop put the hosts under pressure, and there was no comeback as Nihat Kahveci rounded up Turkey’s victory with goal number three as a quarter of an hour was left to be played.

In Group A, Germany and Turkey have been tipped to take possession of the first two Euro 2012 qualifying spots. However, Austria will feel that there’s certainly everything to play for since a third place finish could help them reach the play-offs. It’s obviously too early to speculate about the standings in Group A. Either way, both Austria and Kazakhstan want to take their opportunities match by match. Kazakhstan have already failed as their first attempt ended in defeat at home to Turkey.

On the contrary, Austria are just kicking off their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. A victory would be a good sign as the country aims to appear in the European Championship for the second time in a row.
