Los Blancos came calling, but Barcelona was the only club in his heart, according to the Uruguayan striker.

Last season, Luis Suarez was football's most sought after striker. After a successful 2013-14 season with Liverpool in the English Premier League, in which he netted 31 goals and was named Player of the Year, clubs were drolling over the prospect of having the former Ajax man among their ranks.

A controversial World Cup campaign and a four-month ban from football doused interest from many clubs, however, Real Madrid and Barcelona persisted in the race to land the 28-year-old. The Blaugrana beat Los Blacos to his signature and came out victorious, securing Suarez's services.

Luis has never been silent about his preference for the Catalan giants over their Madrid rivals, and in a recent interview, he opened up about his Les Merengues snub.

Speaking on Cope radio's “El partido de las 12”, the South American attacker revealed that despite Real Madrid's interest, no club but Barcelona appealed to him.

"Real Madrid were very interested in me, but my dream was always to play for Barça. When I heard the name 'Barcelona', I didn't hesitate for a moment."

When asked whether he would have moved to Santiago Bernabeu had Camp Nou not come calling, Suarez responded with:

“You never know what will happen in football, but luck would have it that Barça knocked on my door, and that was the club I wanted. It was a dream that I had had for many years and it came true."

Suarez, who has scored six goals in his last six games for La Liga leaders, has formed a formidable attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Neymar, nicknamed "MSN".

Despite the fierce competition for goals up front among the trio, the Uruguayan denied that the presence his two fellow South American team-mates lessens his chances of scoring.

“No, quite the opposite. For me it is a privilege; it makes life easier for me, because in the other teams I have played in I felt an enormous responsibility. Being surrounded by such great players is a weight off.”
