They were together in Bayern Munich from 2009 to 2011. Real Madrid made a serious offer in 2009 that Bayern executives convinced him to refuse.

His success may be indisputable, but Franck Ribery claims that Louis van Gaal as a person is a bad man. The French player revealed how the Dutch manager and him just couldn’t get along at Bayern Munich between 2009-2011.

'When he started, nobody knew what was going to happen,” Ribery said.

Ribery claimed that he was not the only one who had problems with Van Gaal. The manager made decisions based on what he saw, not on what the shirt said.

Ribery did not enjoy his time playing for Van GaalThere was plenty of confrontation between the two “His idea was that he did not care about names at all, you don't need stars, everybody had to prove themselves again.”

That was something that Ribery did not like. He even started plotting an exit from the German club to other big teams in Europe.

“It was a burden. Many clubs tried to persuade me to change: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Chelsea, Manchester City.”

He clearly remembers how Los Merengues made a bid for him in 2009. To convince him to stay, Bayern said he was as important to their club as Lionel Messi was for Barcelona. Years later, he is happy with his decision to stay.

“Real tried, they wanted me. I don't know what price Bayern wanted them to pay. In the end I am happy how it ended.”

When they compared Ribery to Messi, he opted to stay with BarcelonaRibery and Messi at a Ballon d'Or presentationFor the next few years, things did not get better between Ribery and van Gaal. They had some differences that up to this day, they can’t be able to solve.

“He does great things on the pitch but the coach Van Gaal was a bad man. Our relationship was crushed.”

Van Gaal currently has Manchester United in third place of the Premier League after a very rocky start with the team. Ribery is out with an injury but Bayern has the lead of the Bundesliga after 27 games.
