Has the curse of the International Break hit Lionel Messi? The Argentina captain had to abandon training in Washington, D.C., USA.

News emerging from the United States, where Argentina have been preparing for their friendly match against El Salvador and Ecuador, is causing waves. The world's most in-form player at the moment, Lionel Messi, is reportedly out injured.

The Albiceleste captain arrived in USA on Monday after helping Barcelona triumph 2-1 in El Clasico to remain on top of La Liga standings. He then left practice on Tuesday after feeling pains in his toe. The Argentine FA released the following statement via Twitter:

"La Seleccion Argentina reports that Lionel Messi performed tests in a private clinic in the city of Washington. These were complementary studies on pains suffered to the right foot in the last game he played for Barcelona against Real Madrid. These studies did not produce any injury result."

Messi has been in outstanding form in 2015. He has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the Pichichi with 32 goals, one more than the Portuguese.

La Pulga did not score in El Clasico last Sunday but his assist for the opening goal of the game - scored by defender Mathieu - kept the press and his fans under his mesmerizing effect.

The influence of the 27-year-old has played a big role this season as Barcelona aim to bury last year's trophiless adventure. His fitness level will determine whether or not he will take part in any of Argentina's friendly matches against El Salvador and Ecuador during this International Break. Barcelona fans may want him to miss out these friendlies as the Catalans prepare to face PSG in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, next month.
