Ramos tore his left hamstring in the game vs Sevilla. Nacho or Varane could be taking his spot.

Real Madrid is paying a high-price for its 2-1 victory over Sevilla earlier in the week. Besides James Rodriguez having to undergo surgery, Sergio Ramos is expected to miss over a month of action due to a torn hamstring in his left leg.

The club updated fans about the defender’s status through its website on Friday. Ramos was substituted nine minutes into the game at Santiago Bernabeu. The 28-year-old player headed straight to the locker rooms after leaving the field.

“Following tests carried out on Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid medical service at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with a torn hamstring in his left leg. His progress will be monitored,“ the medical staff declared.

It was Carlo Ancelotti who confirmed the seriousness of the injury at a press conference. The Italian manager will have to decide in between Nacho or Varane to cover Ramos' absence in the starting lineup.

“Ramos' injury is serious. He will be out for the next five weeks,” Ancelotti said as he prepares his team to face Atletico Madrid this Saturday.

The Spanish international will be celebrating ten years with his current club in August. Sevilla is actually the only other team that Ramos has played for as a professional. He has also played in 124 games with Spain’s National Team.

With Madrid he has played in over 300 games. This season he has scored three goals in 18 games.

Most fans will remember him for his header that helped Los Merengues tie the Champions League final in stoppage time. Real Madrid would win the game and its 10th UEFA Champions League 4-1 in extra-time.
