The reigning English Premier League champions look to fight off interest from other European giants in an attempt to lure the 25-year-old to the Etihad.

Reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City look to beat La Liga and Bundesliga giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the race to land hot-shot Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus.

The 25-year-old German ace has a reported €25m release clause embedded in his current contract at the Signal Iduna Park, which will activate at the end of this season. This means a bid somewhere in that region could be enough to prise Jurgen Klopp of one of his star players.

As reported by the Daily Star (per ESPN FC), the Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini is willing to offer Reus a bumper salary in an estimated 200,000-pound-a-week deal.

Having just returned from an ankle injury, Reus looks almost certain to leave second-from-bottom Dortmund next season. However, his next destination remains a mystery.

Los Blancos have long been linked with a move for the former Borussia Monchengladbach man, as of many of Europe's most gifted attacking talents. However, given the fact that Real Madrid already boast the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, and Toni Kroos in their ranks, Reus may find it a challenge breaking into the starting XI.

Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich are another side reportedly keeping an eye on the German star's situation. However, after seeing Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski make the switch to the Allianz Arena, Klopp and the Dortmund board may not be willing to sell yet another one of their key asset to their Bundesliga rivals.
