The Mexican coach could be subject to an investigation regarding the Zaragoza - Levante match of 2011, allegedly being aware of a possible arrangement between the sides.

Despite being named as Japan's head coach for the next four years, Mexican boss Javier Aguirre is uncertain about his future with the Asian team. Being investigated for the allegedly fixed match between Levante and his former team, Real Zaragoza, "El Vasco" could be sacked if there is evidence of his involvement on the matter.

Aguirre was one of the persons involved in the supposed scheme to pay Levante 965,000 euros to lose that match. Aguirre withdrew a suspicious amount of money from his bank account, which was exactly the same amount he was given days before by the club's president, Agapito Iglesias. It is believed that Aguirre, Atletico Madrid's captain Gabi and former goalkeeper Toni Doblas, among others, knew about the arrangement and participated by helping Iglesias deliver the money. A Japanese Federation spokesman left Aguirre's future on hold while they await more details to be revealed.

"We have spoken with Mr. Aguirre about the matter, and he has stated he never took part of any situation like this in his entire career. It would be a very serious problem if this issue could affect his future as Japan's coach. We will remain calm, analyze this situation and see how we can work it out. Aguirre will have our support, but he must demonstrate he had nothing to do with the allegations," stated the executive.

The former coach for Atletico Madrid and Osasuna did not ellaborate on the matter, since he has avoided questions regarding the issue.

"In January I will be fully focused in the Asian Cup. That's all I have to say," Aguirre told the local press.

If necessary, Aguirre would have to travel to Spain in February to determine whether he was aware of a possible arrangement or not.
