After suffering a knee injury early on in Manchester City's home win over Everton, Aguero is now a huge doubt for the Citizens' all-important Champions League tie at the Stadio Olimpico.

Given that Sergio Aguero has been Manchester City's stand out player of the season, coming to the Citizens' rescue on many occasions this term, fans could easily be forgiven for going into panic mode after hearing this from Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean boss, after the English Premier League defending champions' 1-0 win over Everton, admitted that the Argentine attacker will “probably” miss their decisive Champions League clash with Roma on Wednesday.

The former Atletico Madrid star suffered damage to ligaments in his knee early in the first-half of Saturday's game at the Etihad, an injury which has seriously cast Aguero's chances of making the tie at the Stadio Olimpico in doubt.

"Probably he will miss the game," the Manchester City boss stated.

"We are not sure at this moment, but it's very difficult when you have a problem with your ligament to recover in three days.

"Of course, it's a big problem because Sergio was in a very good moment. He is a decisive player for our team but this team is not just Sergio."

As if losing the player who has scored 19 goals in 20 matches in all competitions for the Manchester side so far wasn't enough, the former Malaga manager could also be without another two key players for the trip to Rome.

City, who need to overcome the Serie A giants in order to seal progression to the Champions League round of 16, will have to do without influential Spanish playmaker David Silva, whilst a hamstring injury may also rule out Stevan Jovetic.

"Silva is not ready," Pellegrini added. "Jovetic has a problem so that's why we are pleased to beat Everton, a very good team, without five very important players."

"[Jovetic] has a small problem with his hamstring. We'll see tomorrow what happens."
