The Chelsea boss has expressed his disapproval of the prestigious award, insisting it goes against team spirit, something Mourinho says he doesn't stand for at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has taken the stance of many current football managers, including Arsene Wenger, and has publicly expressed his disapproval of FIFA's Ballon d'Or trophy.

The award, handed out to the best player of the previous season as chosen by coaches, captain's of international teams, and journalists from across the globe, promotes individualism over team spirit in the eyes of the Portuguese coach.

Much debate surrounds as to who deserves to receive this year's prestigious award, with many favoring Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Manuel Neuer to be named the recipient. These comments by the Blues manager comes after UEFA president Michel Platini stated a German should win the award due to die Mannschaft's World Cup success, a remark which La Liga giants Real Madrid were not pleased with.

"This kind of trophy, the Ballon d'Or, is not good for football," Mourinho stated. "This is why I don't care about it.

"Sometimes it looks like we are looking for stars, we are looking for some people to be more important than others. And this is not the culture we want in this club.

"I don't care about it. But it's there. It's there as a consequence of the good work the team is doing. And, if they feel that, okay. It's good for them.

"But the mentality here is not to be worried about that. Even less being obsessed with that.

"When I see these two names, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard, I think clearly they don't think about it. They think about the team, about playing well and trying to win matches."

Mourinho, a former Inter Milan and Los Blancos coach, was nominated for the FIFA World Coach of the Year award, alongside nine other managers.
