The 25-year-old German attacker, who is expected to be in action in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray, looks to be headed for a Signal Iduna Park exit next summer

English Premier League champions Manchester City are ready to go head-to-head with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Marco Reus, claims the Daily Mail, and are preparing a bid for the German attacker.

Reus, tied down to a contract at Signal Iduna Park until 2017, appears certain to depart Jurgen Klopp's crew next summer, as the 25-year-old is stalling over talks for a new and improved deal with the German giants.

Currently struggling in the domestic league, sitting in second-to-last place in the table, Dortmund could be prised of Reus if the release clause in his contract, set at £19.5m, is triggered.

According to the report, Manuel Pellegrini's side are willing to meet the asking price for die Mannschaft star, and are ready to offer Marco Reus a bumper salary raise in order to guarantee his Etihad Stadium arrival.

Dortmund's bitter rivals Bayern Munich are also willing to trigger the 25-year-old's release clause in order to lure him to the Allianz Arena, where he would join former team-mates Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, but the Citizens are confident in beating die Roten by offering a higher wage package, worth an excess of £200,000-a-week.

Another reason why Manchester City remain confident of beating Pep Guardiola's side to Reus' signature is the fact that the Dortmund faithful would prefer to see the former Borussia Mönchengladbach ace move abroad than aid their arch rivals by letting him join the Bavarians.

Marco Reus, who joined Borussia Dortmund back in January of 2012, is set to take the field in the club's Champions League home clash with Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray, on Tuesday.
