Germany humbled Diego Maradona’s Argentina 4-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Europeans are now in with a chance of equaling Brazil’s record of five World Cup trophies won.

Germany celebrate their quarter-final win against Argentina.Argentina Totally Humbled!

Argentina’s Gabriel Heinze scored in the 6th minute against Nigeria, England’s Steven Gerrard scored in the 4th minute against the USA, but Germany’s Thomas Muller scored after only 2 minutes and 40 seconds to send the Deutsch crowd and Angela Merkel wild. It was through a free-kick, which was awarded after Lucas Podolski was fouled, that Thomas Muller headed in his goal past Argentina’s helpless goalkeeper Romero.

The Argentines were forced to deal early under pressure. In fact, Joachim Lowe had designed a plan that his men worked out well as Germany impressively dominated over 100% record holders Argentina.
The Albicelestes had a goal rightfully disallowed for offside while Podolski and Mueller again came close to scoring again for Germany at the other end of the pitch.

Diego Maradona ordained Carlos Tevez and Di Maria to switch positions but this change of tactics didn’t make any difference. The score board inscribed a 1-0 result in favor of the Germans at half time. The public expected Lionel Messi and co to rise up and turn the game around in the second period.

It was agonizing for Argentine fans to see Gonzalo Higuain waste the few chances that the Albicelestes managed to have despite their poor tactics which buried them under Joachim Lowe's side .

In fact, the Germans turned Diego Maradona’s men into clowns. Argentina players react in disappointment.

Klose doubled Germany’s lead in the easiest of manners after being set up by Lucas Podolski in the 68th minute. Friedrich added a third goal in the 74th minute thanks to Bastian Schweinsteiger’s teasing run in the penalty box. There was even time for Klose to clinch a brace in the 89th minute.

What a humiliating score line! Who would have imagined such a thumping result against the Argentines led by Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona?

July 3 will forever remain a historic day for the Germans. They are through to the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. They will meet either Spain or Paraguay.
