The borderline team signed Guzman after dismissing Venezuelan coach Cesar Farías, who had his first experience coaching in Mexico

After earning just seven points in seven matches, Club Tijuana decided to sack Venezuelan coach Cesar Farias. The former boss for his country’s National Team spent more time fighting with his colleagues, such as Santos’ Pedro Caixinha or Chiapas’ Sergio Bueno, and ended up betraying the trust bestowed upon him. So, after much deliberation, Daniel Guzman was hired as the new coach for Tijuana’s dogs.

Guzman is a seasoned coach, having led such teams as Chivas and Santos, where he earned his only championship, back in 2008. Aware of the challenge ahead of him, Guzman spoke during his unveiling press conference about his goals with the Mexican side.

“I want to get the 100% out of my players. I’ve analyzed some of their games and it seems sometimes they have lost focus on what they’re looking for. My goal is giving the people of Tijuana a team they can feel proud of, playing offensive football in our ground or away,” he told reporters.

Club Tijuana has made a name for themselves in the Mexican tournament. Having earned a championship after just five years of existence, they will try to bring back their 2012 glory with such players as US internationals Greg Garza and Joe Corona, or former Wolfsburg and Mallorca midfielder Juan Arango.
