Chivas needs to step their game up, since their coach's future may be at risk. Cruz Azul looks for back-to-back wins when

With relegation in sight, Chivas must step up to their game in one of the Apertura 2014 most expected matches.

Billed "The Most Popular Team in Mexico", Las Chivas need to earn three points against Cruz Azul, since their season so far has been a bit disappointing. Guadalajara right now holds the 15th spot in Apertura 2014 standings. Perhaps the most worrying aspect of Coach Carlos Bustos' team is the attacking side, scoring only two goals in five matches, while accepting seven in Toño Rodriguez's net.

With pressure piling on Chivas, Chief Executive Rafael Puente Jr is conscious his team has to turn things around, or there will be no saving for Carlos Bustos.

"We know we have had a very confusing start. I am aware and take full responsibility of naming Carlos our head coach, and with that certainty I can tell you that if things don't turn around soon, then we will unfortunately have to make some changes," Puente told the press last Thursday.

On the other hand, Cruz Azul's fans are familiar with great starts and scary upsets in the playoff rounds. This time, La Maquina is not living up to the legend. Holding the 10th place in the standings, coach Luis Fernando Tena expects his strikers to come out of their current slump, since they have netted only five goals in the tournament. Perhaps Argentinian Mariano Pavone is to blame, not being able to score a goal for six months, but other players like Marco Fabian are also scoreless this semester. Furthermore, Cruz Azul has sustained tough games at the CONCACAF Champions League, drawing their first match against Alajuelense, and losing on their visit to Chorrillo FC. If things will start to look better for Tena's men, they have to start right away.

Marco Fabian, whose rights are owned by Guadalajara, had his say on this game, mentioning it's been hard on him looking his former team wandering through the relegation ranks.

"I think there is no planning ahead on things. Changes happen very often and as a player it disrupts your confidence. I can even tell you that people who shouldn't have a say on how things are done in the team go ahead and take decisions. That sort of thing has to get to everyone in the organization," Fabian told reporters at Mexico City's airport.

This will be the fifth game between the two sides at Omnilife Stadium. Each team has won one match, while equalising the other two matches.
