The pressure is on Carlo Ancelotti to find a winning formula without the Argentine winger. Without him last week, Real Madrid failed to click in attack when they played Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon in the two-legged Spanish Super Cup tie. They ended up losing 2-1 on aggregate.
The 1984/85 La Liga season marks the last time Los Blancos lost on home soil, on Matchday 1. However, upsets are never too unrealistic in football. Just as Atleti defied the odds to win their first Supercopa de España title since 1985, Cordoba will be looking to embarrass the hosts on Monday.
However, after spending so much on new signings this summer, the Galacticos are not ready to press the panic button. Di Maria’s departure, Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury worries and Iker Casillas’ fragile performances in post are things they want to overcome as a team.
