The team won their first match of the season, only to earn a four game losing streak later on.

Jose Luis Trejo was finally fired as Pumas UNAM’s head coach, according to a press release. Fans of Club Universidad can be happy about this decision, because they held Trejo responsible for the below average performance shown by the team.

Trejo arrived last year to UNAM, never earning the fans appreciation because of his very cautious tactics. With Trejo at the helm, Pumas reached the playoffs last season, but ended their title run at the quarterfinal stage against Pachuca.

This tournament, Trejo was confirmed as head coach, and the results were no better than the previous ones. They started with a win against Querétaro, but lost four consecutive games against Chivas, Toluca, Atlas and León.

David Patiño, who won a championship with the club in the early 90’s, will take head coaching duties for now. Patiño was named head coach last year but lasted only a day after Trejo signed with the club.

On Matchday 6 of the Apertura tournament, Pumas will face Tijuana, hopeful to end their losing streak.
