Borussia Dortmund and Bayern München are set to play each other in the DFL Supercup for bragging rights.

The players are closer than ever after conquering the World together but the boards and hierarchy remain divided. Talk of Marco Reus's release clause by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge angered Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc. His retaliation allowed Matthias Sammer to join the fight as well, leading to the cancellation of lunch between members of the hierarchy before the match.

In terms of players, Bayern is severely weakened by the late return of six World Cup stars, a seventh having transferred out to Real Madrid. Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to sit this one out while nobody is quite sure about the status of Thiago Alcantara. Bayern's investment on Thiago has not worked out as well as planned, considering the number of times he has been injured.

For Dortmund, in the absence of Robert Lewandowski, who is set to appear for the other side, Marco Reus has to make things happen in attack. Having missed the World Cup, he is set to light up the pitch for Borussia Dortmund. His season might yet be filled with rumors of contract talks elsewhere, considering he did not sign an extension with Dortmund.
