The left back was involved in a clash with Francisco Torres, but managed to score and play the full match against Tigres.

Mexican international defender Miguel Layún had surgery performed in his jaw, after being hit by Jose Francisco Torres in America’s last match against Tigres. The former Atalanta player was raced to the hospital immediately after the match ended. Surprisingly, Layún played 90 minutes and capped the fourth straight victory for his team with his first goal of the season.

If everything turns out as planned, Layún won’t be available to play for the next two matches against Morelia and Chiapas, marking a possible return against UNAM.

Known for his quick feet and long range shots, Layún was linked to Fiorentina after his performance in Brazil 2014, where he played in all of Mexico’s matches. This injury may sideline him from playing the next friendly matches for El Tri, as Miguel Herrera wants all of his players in top form before calling them up.

From the hospital, Layún thanked all of his supporters via Twitter for their concern, while celebrating the good run America is having in the Apertura.
