Die Mannschaft made a vow at half time not to embarrass the Selecao in front of their own crowd during Germany's huge semi-final win

The 2014 World Cup host nation were humbled by European giants Germany when the two faced off in the semi-final encounter.

It ended the Selecao's World Cup hopes with many fans left heartbroken as a sixth trophy on home soil slipped from the five-time champions' grasp.

After Brazil's record-breaking loss to Germany in the World Cup semi-finals, the German side has revealed to the press that it made a promise during the half-time break to show respect to the Brazilian team.

According to Mats Hummels, the team vowed to stay "focused and not try to humiliate them," 45 minutes into the 7-1 massacre.

"We said we had to stay serious and concentrate at half-time. That’s something you don’t have to show on the pitch if you are playing," said the 25-year-old defender.

"You have to show the opponent respect and it was very important that we did this and didn’t try to show some magic or something like this. It was important we played our game for 90 minutes."

Surprisingly though, Germany continued to net 2 more goals in the second half, despite their "vow". The Borussia Dortmund center back continued to say:

"After our second goal they got confused. They were not organised on the pitch...This doesn't happen too often. You just have to enjoy it."

Hummels, who is nursing a slight injury and hopeful of a full recovery in time of Sunday's final match against the Argentinian side, expects a similar display is needed to overcome the South American giants.

However, he is adamant that Joachim Low's side will keep a grounded, low-level mindset. "The game does not have any impact on the final on because it will be a totally different game. It was nice how it went, but it will be no problem keeping our feet on the ground."
