The story of Lionel Messi tracking down a young boy who's hand he didn't shake after the Bosnia-Herzegovina game appears to be false

Those who watch football have become familiar with the emotionless, a tad cold showings on the pitch from Argentina ace Lionel Messi.

But the four-time Ballon d'Or winner left everyone in shock after the Argentina captain failed to shake the hand of a young boy in La Albiceleste's opening World Cup game.

After La Pulga led his South American nation to a slim 2-1 over Edin Dzeko's side, the two teams made their way off the field where a group of young boys stood waiting for the Barcelona ace.

One boy in particular stepped forward to shake Messi's hand but the Blaugrana star just walked past the boy, making his way towards the match officials leaving the boy standing there cold.

As to whether it was on purpose or accidental, it is unknow but according to Bleacher Report, Messi turned back to shake the boy's hand but he had already left heartbroken.

But now Lionel Messi tracked down the young boy and met with him, taking a picture with him on Tuesday in an attempt to make amends for what had occurred.

SWEET: After breaking his heart, Lionel Messi tracked down the young boy to make up for the incident

However, a twist to this story later developed as 101 Great Goals wrote that this was not actually that young boy, who was a mascot, but the son of former Fluminense star Deivid.

Messi has also denied snubbing the boy deliberately, as reported by Eurosport, saying:

"How could it be that I did not want to greet the boy? I just did not realise he was there. In fact, I spoke to two other children in the line. I would never do such a thing when I have a nephew and young son, I would never do such a thing with a boy."
