If both sides manage to keep their philosophy and style of play, then the battle will prove to be highly entertaining for us football fans.
Vicente Del Bosque’s squad is made of great stars with a lot of attacking instinct. In Fernando Torres – who was a hat-trick hero on Sunday – Alberto Riera, and the mesmerizing David Villa, the Spanish national football team arguably possesses the best combination of front men in the world.
Fabregas is also instrumental in midfield while the back line is kept safe with the help of Sergio Ramos and Carlos Puyol.
Eleven goals in two games – of which five came against New Zeland – stamps Spain’s imposing authority on the ground.
But despite La Roja’s 5-0 victory on Match Day 1, Vicente Del Bosque refuses to get overwhelmed.
He told Spain’s leading sports magazine, Marca:
"We must not dwell on it too much. We cannot think that we are the best team because the game was misleading,"
"We have to look at the way we played again our opponents. In the first-half we did it well, but by the second-half it was over."
Then after stressing the significance of showing the maximum respect to Iraq, he concluded:
"Iraq will be very difficult opponents,"
Iraq can boast about a few stars like Younis Mahmoud. But the strength of Iraqi’s doesn’t really come from the squad’s individual names. The Asian Champions rely more on their effective and compact style of play.
Iraq are very technical and have very good touches on the ball. Their crowded midfield also comes as an obstacle to opponents. This helped them to hold South Africa to a goalless draw in the opening game of the tournament.
Still, football pundits may tip Spain as clear favorites in this encounter, but no one can take anything away from the 2007 Asian Champions.
However, Iraqi’s keeper Mohamed Kasid insists that Iraq will do what it takes to reach the second round. He said after the opening game, in which his mighty saves powered the Lions of Mesopotamia to a hard-fought draw:.jpg)
"This point is important to qualify for the second round. I promise the Iraqi people that we will not let you down."
He added:
"Our performances will improve in our forthcoming games, as we gained some good experience from this match.
"If we win in another match, we will qualify,"
The interest here is on how Spain’s ‘perfect’ style of play will fair against a technical Iraq team, while we asks ourselves who will dominate on the field.
