On match-day one of the Euro 2012 qualifiers, Macedonia were only minutes away from securing a good point by holding hosts Slovakia to a 0-0 draw in Bratislava. The visitors could have let Slovakia’s supporters pay for not turning out in numbers to watch their team at the Stadion Pasienky.
Instead, Holosko’s 91st minute goal settled things for the home side as Macedonia left Bratislava empty-handed. They now need to bounce back against Armenia on Tuesday, but they might not get things that easy. Like Macedonia, Armenia also went down 1-0 on match-day one of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign; that’s when they lost to Republic of Ireland last Friday.
Macedonia and Armenia share the fourth and fifth spot in Group B. Now Armenia Coach Vardan Minayan has underlined his wish to be above their opponents in the table standings at the end of match-day two. The boss declared:
“We will fight match by match just as we did against Ireland. We won’t underestimate Macedonia. We are preparing for a Euro 2012 qualifying match against a very difficult opponent.”
Between Macedonia and Armenia, which team will complete its task of bouncing back from what happened on match-day one? Will we, ironically, witness a draw against these two determined sides?
