Los Angeles Galaxy vs Columbus Crew Match Report
In a game that pitted first place in the Eastern Conference against first place in the Western Conference, the Galaxy comfortably beat the Crew in a contest that featured the return from injury of David Beckham.
The Galaxy took the lead in the 13th minute when Sean Franklin’s excellent cross was volleyed home by Edson Buddle. The Crew almost responded in the 20th minute when Steven Lenhart broke away, a good save from Donovan Ricketts maintained the Galaxy lead.
Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead on 35 minutes, some neat interplay on the edge of the area freeing Dema Kovalenko who doubled the lead. A Jovan Kirovski header took the score to 3-0 in the 55th minute.
With a comfortable Galaxy lead in place, Beckham entered the game as a 70th minute substitute to a thunderous ovation.
Substitute Andres Mendoza scored a late consolation for Columbus, who remain in first place in the East despite this loss.
