Klose got his name on the scoring sheet for Germany in the 2010 World Cup on match-day 1 against Australia, and he also clinched a goal against England in the DFB Eleven’s humiliating 4-1 triumph in the Round of 16. The Bayern Munich superstar has however revealed that he was eyeing team success ahead of Germany’s match against Uruguay, rather than individual achievement.
“The first thing I want is to win against Uruguay,” he said. “Even if I don’t score, finishing in third place is still the most important thing.
“I don’t know whether I am going to break Ronaldo’s record, but in fact, I don’t really care. I am more interested in our accomplishment as a team.”
Klose is currently battling his way through a back injury, as he aims for a place in Germany’s first eleven against Uruguay. His team mates Philipp Lahm and Lukas Podolski, his coach Joachim Lowe and other members of the German national team have also been struggling for their health, following the flu outbreak which shook off the German camp recently. Although, they might not play against Uruguay in the best of shapes, no excuse will be allowed on the field, if ever anything negative happens.
Germany will have no other choice apart from repeating the history they wrote in 2006 when they finished in third place after defeating 4th place Portugal in the Third Place final. This will be the only way for them to earn consolation following their miss on the 2010 World Cup final.
Luckily for them, temporary Uruguayan captain and superstar Diego Forlan is also hit by an injury which forced him to finish on the bench against the Netherlands in the semifinals. Just as Germany’s Klose and Thomas Muller, Forlan has also scored 4 goals in the competition. Only 2 more goals for any of these 3 players will enable the raising of the Top Scoring award issue.
