Toronto FC vs DC United Match Report

Rock bottom D.C. United delivered a blow to the playoff hopes of Toronto FC with an upset road win.

Toronto started brightly, and star midfielder Dwayne De Rosario surged forward to strike a firm shot against the post in the 6th minute. D.C. gained a foothold in the game, and the impressive Danny Allsopp forced a smart save from Stefan Frei in the 37th minute.

With the scores tied and 10 minutes remaining, Toronto defender Adrian Cann conceded a free kick with a clumsy foul on Allsopp. His team paid a high price when the ball was swung over and D.C. defender Julius James scored the winning goal against his old team.

Boo’s rained down at the final whistle, and the win leaves Toronto with a big task to grab a wild card playoff spot. Toronto are five points off the final playoff spot with six games remaining. Four of Toronto’s remaining games are on the road.
