Ghana Know What To Do: African Hero Asamoah GyanUSA got shocked by the 2010 World Cup’s youngest squad. The Ghanaians know what it means to be the only African team left in the tournament surrounded by four South American contenders and three European nations.
History explains that Ghana will have to beat demons out of their way if they don’t want to fall in the trap that caught both Cameroon and Senegal. LiveSoccerTV.com shares with you an interesting fact that links Cameroon, Senegal, and Ghana together as nations who reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup.
Interesting Fact
* In 1990, Cameroon defeated Colombia 2-1 after extra time in the Last 16 before losing in extra time against England in the quarter-finals.
* In 2002, Senegal defeated Sweden 2-1 after extra time in the Last 16 before losing in extra time against Turkey in the quarter-finals.
* In 2010, Ghana defeated the USA 2-1 in extra time in the Last 16…
The next chapter of the story hasn’t yet been written, but Ghana and the whole of Africa will pray for the routine not to work out this time. The Black Stars of Ghana want to create history and striker Asamoah Gyan is extremely confident ahead of Friday night’s match against Uruguay.
“We know that all of Africa is supporting us. We are the only African team left, and we want to make everyone happy. We know how to boost our moral before games. That’s the key to our success. Sometimes, we sing all the time… We just forget about the game and we make sure that we consider it on our terms, because we know what we can do on the field.”
Asamoah Gyan dedicated each of the three goals he has scored in the World Cup so far to the continent of Africa. The player who is known to have scored the earliest goal in the 2006 World Cup in Germany is entertaining no fears despite many people doubting the Black Stars’ aptitude to break down Oscar Tabarez’s undefeated Uruguayans.
“Uruguay are a difficult side," Gyan admitted. "But, we don’t care who we are going to play against. We are ready to play anyone. I don’t think that’s a problem. We will go there and play our hearts out. And we will come out victorious.”

Jomo Sono – South African Football Legend
“For me, Ghana are the most impressive side. They are organized and they can go far in this tournament. What I can say is that once an African team goes to the knock-out stages, it won’t be easy for any team that will have to face them. The confidence will be a key factor.”
Alexandre Song – Cameroonian Defender
“Ghana are a great team. They have played very good football throughout this competition. For them to be this far is a reward to their determination. I am confident that they will do well.”
Steven Pienaar – South African Play Maker
“We hoped that there would be more African teams to play in the knock-out stages. But I guess that the most important thing is to support whichever African side goes forward. Ghana are a quality side. They have some good players and they have the potential.”
Uruguay’s Celesta Olimpica Dreaming Of Reaching The SkiesWhen Uruguay drew 0-0 against France after playing unconvincingly, only a few people predicted that the team would grow in strength and remain unbeaten as they reach the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. But in a way or another, Oscar Tabarez has guided his team on a good path so far at the pleasure of Uruguayan fans back home. In an interview, the manager declared:
“Before the World Cup, we saw how great the harmony was among players. I said to them, ‘the people back home have aspirations and dreams that we have to deliver’. We all have objectives, both a professional and personal level. Our aim is to go as far as we can in this tournament.”
Uruguay have already faced an African nation in this 2010 World Cup tournament. They outcome proved to be successful as they thrashed host nation South Africa 3-0 in Round 1.
Despite this achievement, Coach Oscar Tabarez insisted that the Black Stars of Ghana are better than Bafana Bafana which gives his side a reason not to be complacent. However, he is also confident that since the Ghanaians aren’t that fast when they play, he can make the right tactical adjustments to guide Uruguay to victory.
“We will have to deal with the issue of being motivated. Ghana are trying to do better than the team that reached the Round of 16 before. Besides, they will benefit from the backing of the entire African continent. I’m sure they’ll cause us a lot of problems.
“Either way, Uruguay will go all out to win the match. If we lose against Ghana, we know we’ll be out of the World Cup. We were in the same condition against South Korea. The team responded, but no-one knows what this game will bring. We have the chance to continue and to make history. We will give everything we have to make it happen.”
