Villa was unhappy at Barcelona while Arsenal needed a great striker. All in all, Villa and Arsenal would be a match made in Heaven. However, Barcelona decided to step in. The Catalan club decided that they needed Villa to stay on for squad depth. The price tag for Villa was high too and Arsene Wenger, as we all know, is not willing to pay high price tags. However, Wenger wanted the Spanish striker undoubtedly and it is a pity for both parties that this deal did not fall through.
Stekelenburg was extremely close to finalizing a deal with Fulham. The deal fell through at the last moment. The Dutch international spent a bulk of his career at Ajax before moving to Roma. He has lost his place in the starting line up to Mauro Goicoechea this season. He knew he would be guaranteed playing time under Martin Jol. This deal would have been a good one considering the wealth of experience the former Ajax star has.
Spurs was not willing to up their offer for the Internacional striker. The Brazilian striker would however serve as a much needed acquisition for Spurs as they currently have only two strikers on board, one of whom is injured. Damiao lit up the Olympics in London and was the top scorer in the tournament. He would have helped Spurs surely.
The manner in which this transfer failed was rather strange. Odemwingie drove to London himself to see the transfer come through but it did not. He did not have permission from West Brom to do so. As a result, he is set to be ‘disciplined’ by his current club. He has burned many bridges. Now, the Nigerian has to rebuild them.
Diame of West Ham and Arsenal were constantly linked with each other throughout the transfer market. Sam Allardyce did not know whether his player would be staying on. As with Wenger and transfers these days, the release clause in Diame’s contract was not triggered and the move never occurred. This deal had seemed likely throughout the transfer window and it is indeed a shame that it fell through.
