There is one team that we all love and its name is Iceland. The Strakarnir okkar made headlines at the European Championship in France thanks to their historic appearance in the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.
They had a historic 2-1 win over favorites England in the last round of 16 but were eventually bundled out by hosts France in the quarter-finals. But as they bowed out of the competition, their brilliant performance was applauded by millions of fans across the globe and their famous Viking clap left its mark in the competition.
Four months down the line, Heimir Hallgrimsson’s men were back in the headlines thanks to their brilliant comeback against Finland in their 2018 World Cup qualifier on Thursday. With Iceland training 2-1 in the 85th minute, they managed to relieve their Euro 2016 performance by scoring two goals in less than 10 minutes to win the match 3-2, a result that revived their qualification chances. And as expected, the streets of social media ran riot. We have compiled some of the best reactions below.
