Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has slammed his predecessor, Rafael Benitez, for taking interest in signing Javier Mascherano and Dirk Kuyt. The transfer window is about to close and the Inter Milan manager wants to make the most of it in the last moments.

Liverpool Coach Roy Hodgson reacting.Currently, there are speculations that Dirk Kuyt is on his way out of Anfield with countryman Wesley Sneijder expressing his desire to team up with the Liverpool forward. However, Coach Roy Hodgson was quick to explain things to the media when asked about issues surrounding these rumors. The 62-year-old, who is struggling to help the Merseyside Reds rebuild their fortress, told the press:

“We haven’t received an offer, and Dirk hasn’t told me he would want to leave if one comes in. When Benitez left the club, he signed an agreement that he would not poach players. And I think that still applies.

Liverpool's Javier Mascherano controls the ball as Coach Rafael Benitez watches from the sidelines.

“As far as I’m concerned, the agreement with [Inter Milan president Massimo] Moratti [that Internazionale won’t sign Liverpool players] still stands. There’s obviously something going on behind the scenes, with the agent possibly talking to the manager of Inter.

“We wouldn’t welcome an offer, we haven’t received an offer, and at this very late stage in the transfer window, it would be remarkably unusual for us to accept an offer for a player we don’t want to leave for money that we don’t need. I need the player, not the money.”

Dirk Kuyt may remain a Liverpool player for at least the 2010/2011 season. But one man who looks set to quit the club is Javier Mascherano. The defender is on Barcelona and Inter Milan’s radar. Mascherano opted to skip Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat against Manchester City earlier this week – much to the displeasure of his Liverpool team mates who criticized his attitude afterward.

With a move to either Barcelona or Inter Milan looking imminent, Javier Mascherano may once again miss Liverpool’s English Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion this weekend. However, the Merseyside Reds will have to learn how to cope with such an issue as they seriously need to get their campaign moving on the right track. After suffering a difficult trip in Manchester, Liverpool will be back at Anfield where bad luck saw them share three precious points with Arsenal on match-day one.

Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion is scheduled to kick off at 10:00am EST on Sunday, August 29. Visit the Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion Live Streaming and TV Schedule page for more info concerning this English Premier League clash.
