Another day, another draw – this was the reaction of fans as they watched the Red Devils split the points at Old Trafford once again. This time, Jose Mourinho’s men were unable to overcome Swansea, with the Sunday draw ending 1-1.
The hosts took the lead in the first-half courtesy of a controversial Marcus Rashford penalty. Captain Wayne Rooney stepped up and converted from the spot. However, Gylfi Sigurdsson scored from a free-kick late in the second half to earn a draw.
Jose Mourinho became a laughing stock after this latest tie, but the stats showed that the Special One had a reason to smile after the final whistle as well as frown.
The downside of the 1-1 draw
Other than the obvious – dropping to points and losing ground on Man City and Liverpool in the top four race – it has the Red Devils one more home draw from an unflattering record.
With 10 draws at Old Trafford this season, they are only one away from the most number of home draws in a single season. That atrocious record was set way back in 1980/81.
The upside of the 1-1 draw
Man United remain unbeaten. It’s not the most glorious unbeaten run, but the Red Devils haven’t lost a game in the Premier League in their last 25 ties – a club record.
25 - Manchester United have set a new club record for their longest unbeaten run within a top-flight season (25, W13 D12). Streak.
