Just as Arsenal fans braced themselves to see their club sign no one before the transfer window shuts close, news of Danny Welbeck undergoing an Arsenal medical spurred out of nowhere.
The Manchester United striker has been tipped to follow Javier Hernandez and exit Old Trafford, but a move to White Hart Lane to join Tottenham was believed the likely outcome.
The Red Devils, who are close to completing the signing of Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan deal, were thought not to be keen on selling to their English Premier League rivals Arsenal, but were happy to see him transfer to Spurs.
Sky Sports News broke this transfer revelation that the Three Lions attacker is undergoing a medical ahead of signing for the Gunners.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the 23-year-old prefers a move to Arsene Wenger's side and will soon complete his Gunners transfer as the two clubs have already agreed a £6m loan move.
On the contrary, talkSport claim to have spoken with Welbeck's agent Jonathan Hope, who states the player is leaning towards a pemanent mover over a short-term loan arrangement.
When asked whether the deal would go through, Hope responded wth: “Very much so.
"There have been a few clubs in for Danny and they’re looking for loan deals with a view to buying, but Danny doesn’t want to go on loan.
"He wants a straight transfer and he has every right to say that.
“In the last half an hour I have received some interest in a straight transfer which I’m going to speak to Manchester United about.”
After seeing Olivier Giroud fall to a serious ankle injury, ruling him until the new year, Arsenal are in dire need of goalscoring reinforcements. However, the news of a possible Welbeck signing received mixed reactions on Twitter.

I'm actually laughing at us signing Danny Welbeck! The only positive I can think of is that he's better then Yaya Sanogo! That's it!

Welbeck to Arsenal? Hmmm at least he's better than Sanogo, he'll also give Giroud a run for his money

Welbeck to Arsenal is an excellent deal for both parties. Player should develop and improve overall under Wenger. Should do well!

But Sky Sports have now gone back on their previous report, now stating via Twitter that the FA Cup holders have "categorically" denied the player has undergone a medical at the club.
