Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has reached a great milestone in his footballing career. The Argentine played his 293rd game for Los Blaugrana on Saturday when they faced Granada, a result that made him the foreigner with the third-most appearances for Barcelona.
Prior to the match, the ex-Liverpool man was at level with Netherlands great Philip Cocu in terms of foreigners with most appearances for the Catalan giants. But by making it to the starting lineup, he now boasts of holding the record as his own.
In his six years at the Nou Camp, the 32-year-old has won quite a good number of trophies. They include four league titles, three Copa del Reys, a hat-trick of Spanish Super Cups, two Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have confirmed a world-record kit deal worth 140 million pounds a season with American kit manufacturers Nike. The La Liga defending champions have now smashed Man United’s previous record of 720 million pounds over a 10-year-period. Barca’s new deal is expected to run up to 2023, as reported by Sky Sports.
