Just days after his official unveiling in front of a sold-out DRV PNK Stadium, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner returned to that exact ground for his very-first game for the Herons – a Leagues Cup showdown with Cruz Azul. The Argentine icon, who wasn't at his fittest, was named on the bench before being subbed just before the hour mark.

All eyes were on the Barcelona legend. A who's who list of celebrities were in attendance for Messi's debut, including fellow sports royalty Serena Williams and LeBron James.

And just as the game appeared destined for a draw, Messi's won a free kick in the final minute of stoppage time. Everyone began wondering if it would be a fairy tale ending to his debut match and lo and behold, the Argentine curled a sensational 94th-minute free-kick into the back of the net to win his team the match at the final whistle.

Lionel immediately began trending on Twitter as a result, with lovers of the beautiful game hailing him as the GOAT once more following yet another magical moment in his illustrious career.
