Mbappe and Co. head to the Allianz Arena with the sole objective of overturning the 1-0 deficit. Who will win this 2nd-leg tie and progress to the quarterfinals? Here's a preview of Wednesday's exciting showdown.

The UEFA Champions League is back in action, with one particular fixture taking center stage this midweek. That tie will see the champions of Germany and France lock horns as Bayern Munich prepare to host PSG in what should be a thrilling 2nd-leg encounter in this round of 16 battle.

Bayern Munich will have the home advantage for this tie but that isn't the only thing going in their favor ahead of the 2nd leg. The aggregate scoreline, albeit slim, tips the scale for the hosts as the German giants pulled off a crucial victory at the Parc des Princes in the 1st encounter.

Kingsley Coman got the only goal in his return to the French capital but Nagelsmann's side left France disappointed after failing to capitalize on their overall dominance. While the scoreline doesn't suggest it, the Bundesliga holders dominated the French giants and were unfortunate not to have scored more than once.

Nonetheless, the late sending off of Benjamin Pavard threatened to undo everything for die Roten but the Germans held on for the victory till the final whistle. Unfortunately, the game that came immediately after the Parc des Princes visit saw Bayern Munich lose 3-2 to Borussia M'gladbach in their domestic league.

However, the home side have gathered momentum in the build-up to their second-leg showdown with PSG. The Bavarians beat Union Berlin, who are third in the table, 3-0 roughly two weeks ago before triumphing 2-1 over Stuttgart during the weekend to maintain their slim grip on the no.1 spot.

Nonetheless, pressure is mounting on Nagelsmann and with the German boss guiding the European giants to a shocking quarterfinal exit at the hands of Villarreal last season, Bayern Munich cannot afford a slip-up on Wednesday.

The same is true for PSG, a club that has spent billions of dollars in their pursuit of continental glory. However, despite recruiting the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar, and many others, the French giants are yet to get their hands on the Ol' Big Ears.

The Ligue 1 leaders struggled in the first leg despite boasting the home advantage, which was a confidence crusher for fans hoping to see Les Parisiens win the UEFA Champions League. Mbappe, who became the club's all-time top scorer over the weekend, did not start that match due to a fitness issue, which was a huge part. While the 2018 World Cup winner is back, this does not mean all is well.

Neymar is out for the return leg and has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury. Furthermore, while Mbappe and Messi have established a lovely partnership in attack, Galtier's men continue to struggle in defense, having conceded 2+ goals in four out of their last six outings across all competitions.

The current PSG head coach is also facing tremendous pressure as the French powerhouse still appear incapable of dominating their continental rivals. Furthermore, with Mbappe's future being under tremendous uncertainty, this could be the club's final opportunity to win the UEFA Champions League with the boy from the Banlieue spearheading the team. Victory at the Allianz Arena is a must and while that is achievable, it is no easy feat.

Team news

Bayern Munich: Pavard is suspended for this tie after his sending-off in the 1st leg. Meanwhile, Lucas Hernandez is still recovering from the ACL injury he suffered at the FIFA World Cup. Manuel Neuer and Noussair Mazraoui are also on the sidelines. Sadio Mane, meanwhile, has returned from injury but faces a fight to start in the attack ahead of Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, and Jamal Musiala.

PSG: Neymar is out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious ankle injury, thus robbing Galtier of a member of the club's deadly front three. Additionally, Presnel Kimpembe has been sidelined with a long-term injury of his own. Marco Verratti, however, should be back while Achraf Hakimi, who is under investigation over a rape accusation (which he denies), is free for selection.
