Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini has challenged the press to pick between him and first-team coach David Platt. The Italian did so in a particularly humorous manner.

Due to the Citizens’ poor form in the UEFA Champions League, Mancini has had to deal with intense pressure from the press lately. Indeed, nothing is going well for the reigning English Premier League winners in Europe.

Manchester City are yet to win a single game and last time’s disappointing home draw against Ajax did nothing to silence critics. Bored by the bombarding of questions related to City’s Champions League campaign, Roberto Mancini sent first-team coach David Platt to attend the press conference ahead of last weekend’s league fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

In the aftermath of the encounter, which saw the Citizens take all three points, Mancini was still nowhere to be found in the press conference room. The Italian manager left David Platt in charge of speaking to the media.

Eventually, pundits questioned Roberto Mancini’s decision to shy away from cameras and microphones. However, the coach hit them back with another question as he finally made a press conference appearance ahead of his team’s Premier League encounter against Aston Villa on Saturday.

“Do you want David or me?” he asked to which one may answer: “I want the mask!”
