Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane will have to rally his troops against Malaga without the services of their star player Karim Benzema.
The Spanish giants broke the news via their official Twitter handle ahead of the crucial La Liga match at the Rosaleda on Sunday.
Los Blancos will now have to depend on four forwards; Cristiano Ronaldo, Jese, Lucas Vazquez and Borja Mayoral. Goal reports that the France international is suffering from minor hip problems and the former Real Madrid player-cum-manager does not want to risk playing him, to avoid further damage.
The Frenchman has scored 19 goals in 19 La Liga games for Los Blancos this season, and his absence will be a huge blow to their title campaign.
Los Merengues are currently placed at the third position on the log, 10 points behind league leaders FC Barcelona, who beat Las Palmas 1-2 away from home thanks to goals from Neymar Jr and Lionel Messi.
But Mayoral is not a bad addition to Zizou’s squad; he has scored 11 goals for Real Madrid’s Castilla in the second division in 22 appearances. He is now faced with a mammoth task to fit into the shoes of the lethal Benzema, albeit temporarily, and provide the much-needed goals upfront.
