Barcelona’s struggles in the transfer market continue. The Blaugrana are working hard to bolster their attack and midfield, but have met another major roadblock.
According to RAC1 (as per Mundo Deportivo), their Philippe Coutinho chase is as good as dead. The Brazilian ace was the Copa del Rey champions main target, with the player himself also keen on a Camp Nous switch.
The Spanish giants have already made three bids for Liverpool’s 25-year-old ace, but all three were rejected. This is despite the fact that the Brazilian handed in an official transfer request in order to force an Anfield exit.
The Mereyside giants remain adamant: Coutinho is not for sale. Ernensto Valverde’s side are ready to end the Coutinho race after giving the Reds a 7pm deadline on Sunday to respond to their offer.
As a result, Barcelona have begun looking elsewhere. Their focus is now on Ligue 1 where they wish to sign Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri. He was one of the most influential players in the French side’s third-placed finish last season.
But the Blaugrana lateness will cost them. The Ivorian had a buyout clause worth 40m euros, but that has now expired and his Ligue 1 employers want more for his signature.
Angel Di Maria is also a target, but the Argentine is seen as merely a backup should they officially give up on signing Coutinho.
