The defending champions of the Premier League, Manchester City, will entertain struggling Barnsley in the FA Cup this weekend.

Team News

Manchester City has a host of injury problems currently.

Sergio Aguero has a knee injury while Jack Rodwell has a hamstring problem. Maicon has a knee injury while Micah Richards is suffering from cartilage problems in his knees. Vincent Kompany is set to face a late fitness test as he makes his way back from a calf problem.

Scott Golbourne is out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury for Barnsley.

Analysis

Considering the points gap between first and second place in the Premier League, this competition is perhaps Manchester City’s only realistic hope of silverware this season. They take on a team which will perhaps be more concerned about staying in the Championship rather than winning silverware. Barnsley is twenty second in the English Championship, one point below safety. Their form turned around for the better in January with the appointment of David Flitcroft. Beating City, despite City’s injuries, will be a tough ask for this Barnsley side.
