FC Porto have sacked their coach, Paulo Fonseca, after a four match winless streak which has resulted in a nine point gap between them and league leaders Benfica. The 27 time Portuguese champions have found themselves in third spot after a streak of disappointing results.

Porto had seen their five and a half year unbeaten home record shattered as they fell victims to Estoril last week and saw themselves tie with Guimaraes despite taking a 2-0 lead. The Portuguese side were dumped out of the Champions League in the group stages but made it into the Europa League and have qualified for the round 16.

Porto annunced on their Twitter account that reserve-team coach Luis Castro had been named as their interim coach. They wrote:

"Luis Castro is interim coach."

He is Porto's ninth coach in 10 years since their 2004 Champions League winning side of Jose Mourinho.
