Can Borussia Dortmund finally get the better of Bayern Munich?

Borussia Dortmund

Although die Schwarzgelben come into this game after a resounding 5-2 win over Hamburg, Dortmund find themselves in sixth spot after 10 rounds. They're on a four-match unbeaten streak, but three of those resulted in draws, resulting in six valuable points dropped. As such, they find themselves six points behind upcoming visitors Bayern, meaning that regardless of what happens on Saturday, their opponents will still remain three points clear. Nonetheless, beating a bitter rival is always a huge confidence booster, and Thomas Tuchel's side will be doing everything they can to knock the reigning champs off their title perch.

Since Dortmund won the Bundesliga title in 2012, no other team has been able to win the league crown. Bayern, who have won the past four consecutive titles, were also the last team to defeat Dortmund on their home turf over a year ago, and the hosts will be loath to allow die Roten to ruin a long-standing 26 match unbeaten streak. Tuchel will hope that current top scorer Pierre Emerick Aubameyang will be able to continue his impressive goal-scoring form after grabbing a poker during the 5-2 demolition of Hamburg, but unfortunately will not be able to count on Marco Reus. The often-injured German star reportedly suffered yet another setback and will not be able to recover in time for Saturday's crunch clash.

Bayern Munich

For starters, Carlo Ancelotti appears to have a bit of a "Dortmund hex". The Italian tactician has faced die Schwarzgelben on nine occasions competitively during his managerial tenure and has lost four. That's more than against any other German side. However, he did begin his term with Bayern on the best footing possible - by beating Dortmund during the Super Cup back in August. In terms of personnel, Javi Martinez is set to miss out, whilst Arjen Robben is another who injuries continue to plague him and unfortunately will not feature. And there is concern about Arturo Vidal after the Chilean reportedly complained of some muscular issues, but he may be able to shake it off in time to play.

Thomas Muller's goal struggles are a major source of concern. The World Cup winner has been unusually subdued and has failed to score in nearly 700 minutes of action, which will increase the goal-scoring burden on attacking colleague Robert Lewandowski. Will die Roten continue their record of frustrating Dortmund and remain on top of the table? Or will die Schwarzgelben manage to get the better of them and put an end to their unbeaten run this season?
