The former Sao Paulo defender gave his first words as Barcelona player in a press conference organized by the club on Friday. Douglas Pereira dos Santos signed a 5-year contract with Barcelona in a deal worth $7.2 million and he will be wearing number 16.
“As soon as I saw this shirt I realized how much I am going to have to do here,” said the Brazilian.
“I’m really looking forward to training with my new team-mates. Since I’ve been here it’s all been on a different level: the city, the club, the stadium.”
“I’ll start training and helping my colleagues from tomorrow morning. I’ll show them what I can offer as a player.”
Douglas was signed from Brazilian club Sao Paulo where he made 69 appearances and scored 4 goals from 2012 to 2014. The 24-year-old started his career in his home country playing for Goiás where he spent two years before joining Sao Paulo.
Douglas, as a right-back, will have a tough competition with fellow country-man Dani Alves for the role. As stated by Douglas, he is looking forward to learn from Alves.
“I’ll speak to Alves to learn everything about this club. If I can win the titles Alves has won with Barça, I’ll be a happy man, playing for a team like this will make me better as player, because this is the best club in the world.”
