This week in From the Vault, on September 21, 1980, the New York Cosmos defeated the Fort Lauderdale strikers 3-0 at the Soccer Bowl 1980 before a crowd of 56,768. On the same day 23 years later, the USWNT defeated Sweden 3-1, while Brazil won big 3-0 against South Korea in the Women’s World Cup Group Stage. Two days later the strong Brazilian women’s side tied France 1-1, Germany destroyed Argentina 6-1 in another group stage match. D. C. United won against the New York Red Bulls 4-3 on September 23, 2006. In attendance to help celebrate was the reunion of the 1996 MLS Cup winning team. On September 24, 2011, Dwayne De Rosario recorded the fastest hat-trick in club history, scoring goals in the 22nd, 27th and 31sts minutes. That performance helped him wrap up the 2011 MLS MVP award.
