According to Marca, the Kylian Mbappe saga has finally come to an end. The French superstar, who has been on Real Madrid's radar since the summer of 2017, has reportedly already signed an agreement with the Spanish giants.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is out of contract this summer and has already informed PSG that he will not activate the additional year in his deal and will instead leave. Additionally, the Ligue 1 sensation has communicated this to the dressing room ahead of his anticipated Santiago Bernabeu switch.
However, while a move to the Spanish capital was thought to be a formality, the consensus was that nothing had been agreed. Marca reports that an agreement is in fact in place and was signed two weeks ago.
The 25-year-old will officially become a Real Madrid player by July 1, with this deal running until 2029. Mbappe's presentation date will be tricky, however, as the club will have the juggle between the opening ceremony of the new Santiago Bernabeu, Euro 2024, and the summer Olympics, in which Mbappe wishes to participate.
As for his salary, previous reports already predicted a wage cut for the unstoppable goalscorer. Additionally, Real Madrid were not willing to offer him the exact terms they tabled back in 2022 when he entered the final few months of his previous PSG deal.
As a result, while Kylian will become Los Blancos' highest-paid player, the Spanish top-flight leaders have not broken their scales to acquire the attacker.
Sources close to the negotiation estimate Mbappe will be earning between €15M to €20M net per year — however, Marca points out that they could not independently verify this figure. In 2022, Real Madrid tabled €26M net per year for the Frenchman.
And that was not the only financial concession Mbappe has agreed to. Florentino Perez also offered a whopping €130M signing bonus back in 2022. Fast forward to today and the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners' offer does not even reach €50M.
The Supercopa de Espana champions were effective in getting these concessions out of Kylian. Their approach was also clear: with Jude Bellingham and Vincius Jr. already being at the club and performing at a world-class level, the Merengues informed the PSG star that there was no urgency to sign him.
Speaking of Bellingham, the English midfielder proved to the entire world — and to Mbappe, in particular — the wonders Real Madrid can do for a player's status in the game. Eight months after leaving Dortmund for the Spanish capital, the midfielder is now regarded as one of the hottest names in the game and is even being mentioned as a possible Ballon d'Or candidate.
Additionally, lucrative sponsorship deals would likely follow should Mbappe move to the Bernabeu and perform well at arguably the greatest club in history.
